Classification BMI range (kg/m2) Health Risks
Underweight < 18.5 kg/m2 Risk of developing problems such as nutritional deficiency and osteoporosis. You may need to put on some weight.
Healthy weight 18.5 – 24.9 kg/m2 Low Risk (healthy range). By maintaining a healthy weight, you lower your risk of developing serious health problems.
Overweight 25 – 29.9 kg/m2 Moderate risk of developing heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes. You may be advised to lose some weight for health reasons.
Class I obesity 30 – 34.9 kg/m2 High risk of developing heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes. Your health may be at risk if you do not lose weight.
Class II obesity 35 – 39.9 kg/m2
Class III obesity ≥ 40 kg/m2
